The Tourist Minister of Gran Canaria, Roberto Moreno, has been working on an action plan to revive tourism on the island. He wants Europeans to be part of his action plan for next summer and wants to put the internet to work in an effort to help his cause.
More flights will be coming into Gran Canaria in the summer of 2009, especially from Nordic countries; specifically from Iceland, Sweden and Finland. The aim of Gran Canaria is to become the preferred destination for Scandinavian tourists, in winter as well as summer. It was also stressed that the German market as well as those in Prague and Czechoslovakia were extremely important. At a press conference yesterday, it was announced that there would be closer working relations, workshops and presence at world tourism events togther with contracts with European Public Relation Companies.
Gran Canaria now has a tourist newsletter, which is available in six languages:there is also a presence on Youtube and on the photographic sharing site Flickr, as well as on Facebook. It is hoped that a greater presence on the Internet will increase awareness of the Island around the world.
