Trike Tours In Tenerife

“Jump on and feel the freedom of the road”
For the Biker in you…. If you fancy a tour with a bit of a twist, then Trike Tours Tenerife is going to be just up your street! We all know about the usual coach tours that stuff you into a coach and drag you around looking at sites, then dragging you back again, so how about making your way around the island on a huge motorised trike – its a car engine with 3 wheels!!
That is what we got up to on a hot friday afternoon – well someone has to! To say I was unexcited would be the understatement of the week, even Steve, my husband, wasn’t keen as he hates being driven anywhere, so we were on a non starter there anyway! However, in the interests of researching tourist options, off we went.
Alex, an extremely nice Scotsman met us in a car park in Los Cristianos, usually you are collected from your accommodation, but I refused to let my neighbours see me in a crash helmet, never mind on this contraption… Alex went through the safety features and talked us through where we wanted to go. Trike tours offer a selection of 4 tours ranging from 1 hour through to 4 hours. We graciously accepted the 1 hour tour!
We donned our crash helmets and away we went. It took us about 3 minutes to get into the tour, amazing how many cars, lorries and pedestrians waved and tooted at us. This is a seriously cool way to get around everyone loved it, shrinking violets this is not for you.
We started by riding through Los Cristianos and on to Las Americas, pausing to watch surfers mostly falling off their boards, and for photos – this took ages as everywhere we stopped, throngs of tourists stopped and had a nosey at this extraordinary beastie, then went down though La Caleta and up into the hills. As far as Steve was concerned, this is where it got seriously interesting, he took over the driving!
Afterwards Steve said “Having ridden bikes for a lot of years this was a whole new experience, it felt like sitting on a bike but you steer like a car. One thing you have to remember is all the extra width at the back. Alex let me drive round La Caleta to get the feel of the trike and also see how I did. After the second circuit he asked if I would like to carry on, so off we went again back towards Torviscas and up to the view point in Torviscas Alto. It was the most amazing experience riding something that is a bike but with the comfort of a car.”
He enjoyed himself so much Alex thought he was going to have to leaver him out of the drivers seat with a crow bar, but gave him 9 1/2 out of 10 for effort!
All tours are for two people, however there are two trikes on the island so if 4 of you would like to try it out, with one of you driving, then you can as long as you have had a current driving licence for at last a year and you are over 25. You will have to produce your licence before you are alllowed to ride. The minimum age to ride on the trike is 14.
The 1 hour tour costs €50 for 2 people and involves collection for your accommodation, then takes you through a coastal tour of Los Cristianos, Las Americas, La Caleta and up into the hills for an amazing photo opportunity of the whole of the coastal area. You are then taken back to your accomodation.
For 2 hours the price is €75 for two people, you will be collected and then driven to La Camella, Buzanada, Aldea Blanca, Los Abrigos – including around the harbour, Golf del Sur and Las Galletas. Again you will be delivered back home. This tour offers you some amazing opportunities to see the views through La Camella and Valle San Lorenzo before coming back down the mountain.
3 hours costs €100 for two and takes the other side of Tenerife to include Playa San Juan, Los Gigantes and Santiago del Teide, all offering fantatsic photo opportunities.
The 4 hour tour costs €125 for two people and is a journey up to Mount Teide via the scenic route, it takes you through La Camella, Buzanada, San Miguel, Villa Flor and right up to Teide – though not to the top obviously!
All tours are flexible however, if you want to include something specific, just ask and it will be done. Although the tours are not the cheapest on the Island, they are definitely up there with the best, so perhaps to celebrate something special like a birthday or anniversary or even a marriage proposal, what a unique opportunity to try out something a bit different.
We are seriously considering using it as a means of getting to our wedding anniversary party. Yup I’ll be a convert to the beastie then!
